Today’s GoalsToday’s Goals You will be able to: Understand different aspects of Nigerian Culture based on your and your classmates’ research. You will show this by: Sharing information with each other about your research, then planning an essay that synthesizes that information.

Tomorrow’s EssayTomorrow’s Essay By looking at multiple aspects of Nigerian culture, describe what challenges you might face if you were transplanted to live there. Use the knowledge and notes that you have gained through the sharing of the travel brochures in order to add specific examples and evidence to your writing. You do need to use evidence from multiple aspects of Nigerian culture, though you do not need to use evidence from all 8. ExemplaryProficient The Essay: *Has a clear, nuanced, and well-maintained position. *Provides a range of relevantly incorporated, strong evidence. *Defends its position while incorporating different positions to enhance its own stance. *Concludes with vivacity and relevance. *Is enhanced by a personal and appropriate use of English. The Essay: *Has a clear position. *Provides multiple pieces of strong evidence. *Defends its position and acknowledges opposing views. *Concludes neatly. *Meets standard English expectations.

Before We Share BrochuresBefore We Share Brochures Create a page in your English Notebooks for notes on Nigerian Culture. Have one spot for information on each of the following topics (minus your own). Law, Sports/Games, Religion, Ceremony, Food/Music/Art/Dance, Gender Roles, Clothing, Language

Brochure FairBrochure Fair 1.Leave your brochure at your desk and rotate around to take notes on different aspects of Nigerian culture. Take notes on different aspects as they relate to the prompt. Make sure that you can cite each person’s brochure. Ask questions if you need clarification on something. No more than 2 people at a time using a brochure. 2.Use your notes to begin planning your essay. Make sure that you know how you will incorporate the different aspects of a good essay so that you are prepared for tomorrow’s in-class write. 3.Disruptive, distracted, or unacceptable behavior will be factored in to your travel brochure grade. Copying Notes Instead of Taking Your Own = Negative Points
