Area of Squares, Rectangles, & Parallelograms
2
What is Area? Area is the space a shape covers, or takes up Area is the number of square units equal in measure to the surface of a shape.
3
Squares, Rectangle & Parallelogram Square A 4 sided shape with 4 equal sides. Square A 4 sided shape with 4 equal sides. Rectangle A 4 sided shape with 2 sides that are equal in length, and longer than the other two sides, which are also equal in length. Rectangle A 4 sided shape with 2 sides that are equal in length, and longer than the other two sides, which are also equal in length. Parallelogram A 4 sided figure with opposite sides that are parallel, and are also equal in length. Parallelogram A 4 sided figure with opposite sides that are parallel, and are also equal in length.

How to Calculate Area of Squares, Rectangles & Parallelograms AREA = base x height – Base – A side of a shape, usually perceived as the bottom of the shape – Height – A line that is perpendicular to the base – Spans from the base to another edge of the shape – The height isn’t always another side of a shape, like it would be with the rectangle and square
