2. Goal and Agenda  The goal of this session is to prepare you to teach the Steps to Respect curriculum  Agenda:  Overview  Lesson Exploration  Teaching Strategies  Closure

3. Your Materials  Each box has a binder with complete student lessons in it, including:  Teacher’s guide  Handout masters  Transparencies  Family handout masters  Video  Posters  Literature Unit

4. The Lessons  The information is completed in 10 Lessons. -Designed to be taught on order -Ideally a new lesson is introduced each week -They are presented in 3 parts  Part 1 and 2 are introductory discussions and concepts. Part 3 introduces key lesson concepts.  Designed to be presented all in the same week -Each part takes 20-30 min

5. The Lessons cont’d  Lesson 11 is an optional review  There are 2 literature units for teachers to choose from- only 1 is required.  Lit units contain 7-10 30 minute lessons depending which book you choose.  Reading can be done however works best in your classroom- read aloud, read along, independently, etc.

Lesson Format  Introductory Section  Overview, skills and concepts taught, objectives, materials  Transfer of Learning  Tips for helping students use the lessons skills in real life  Parts 1 and 2  Warm up, central learning activity (games, videos, photos, practice activities) reflective activities,  Part 3  Continues core lesson and reinforcement activities  Designed to be taught 2-3 days after parts 1 and 2  Optional Extension Activities  Explores content through other academic areas and outside of school

7. Lesson Exploration  Lesson 1,2, or 3 (Friendship lessons)  Lesson 4,5,6,7,8 or 9 (Recognizing and Responding to Bullying lessons)  Lesson 10 (Personal Responsibility Lesson)  Any Literature Lesson of Your Choice
