Genesis 22:1-2 1 Sometime later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” 2 “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
10
“Sometime Later” The words used to describe Isaac in this chapter, as well as what Moses said of him, indicate that he was probably a young man at this time. The Jewish historian Josephus said he was 25 years old. Tom Constable

“God tested Abraham’s faith”
James 1:13 (NASB95) Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
12
James 1:2–4 (NASB95) Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
13
1 Peter 1:7 (NLT) These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

15
“The Land of Moriah” Genesis 21:33–34 (NLT) Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God. 34 And Abraham lived as a foreigner in Philistine country for a long time. Beersheba is 45 miles South of Jerusalem
17
Genesis 14:17–18 (NLT) After Abram returned from his victory over Kedorlaomer and all his allies, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). 18 And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine.

City of David
20
2 Samuel 24:14–25 (NLT) But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen. 25 David built an altar there to the Lord and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And the Lord answered his prayer for the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped.
21
2 Chronicles 3:1 (NASB95) Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
23
“Sacrifice him…. a burnt offering”
Gen. 4:26 At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.
24
Genesis 22:3-5 3 The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
25
Genesis 22:6-8 6 So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, 7 Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” 8 “God will “provide” a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.
26
Isaiah 53:6 (NIV84) 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. The fire consumed the wood as a picture of the judgment of God against sin. Warren Wiersbe

28
“Father” - “Abba” Mark 14:36 (NASB95) And He was saying“ Abba! Father!, All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.”
29
“God Will Provide For Himself”
“God ('elohiym) will provide (ra'ah) Himself a lamb for a burnt offering” The English word “provide” is from the Latin, meaning “see beforehand.” Dr. Criswell Heb. Word “Ra’ah” means to “see” or to “see to something”, so the literal wording is: “Elohym will see Himself a lamb"
30
“The Lamb of God”
31
“The Lamb of God” John 1:29 (NKJV) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
32
“The Lamb of God” Revelation 5:1–14 (NKJV) 5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.” 6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain…”
33
Genesis 22:9-12 9 When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11 At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven…
34
“Abraham. Abraham. ” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am
“Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” 12 “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”
35
“now I know that you truly fear God”
“To fear God means to reverence Him as sovereign, trust Him implicitly, and obey Him without question.” Ross Proverbs 9:10 (NASB95) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
36
Hebrews 11:17–19 (NLT) It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.
37
“You have not withheld from me your only son”
John 3:16–17 (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
38
Genesis 22:13-14 13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will see or provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
39
"In the mount of the LORD (YHWH) it shall be seen”
“Yahweh-Yireh” "In the mount of the LORD (YHWH) it shall be seen” "LORD" - YHWH - Yahweh or Jehovah. (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah. The Hebrew letters appear to be a form of the verb "To be" (1961 hayah to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass)
40
Genesis 22:15-18 15 Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. 16 “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17 I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18 And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”
41
“Because you have obeyed me…”
John 14:15 (NASB95) “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments… 21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
42
“I swear by my own name…”
Hebrews 6:13–14 (NASB95) For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.”
43
“Abraham…traveled back to Beersheba”
Genesis 22:19 (NIV84) Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.
44
Revelation 22:17 (NASB95) The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
45
Genesis 22:20-24 20 Soon after this, Abraham heard that Milcah, his brother Nahor’s wife, had borne Nahor eight sons. 21 The oldest was named Uz, the next oldest was Buz, followed by Kemuel, 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. 23 (Bethuel became the father of Rebekah.)
