Real World Problem: Savannah wants to buy Halloween decorations for a party. If each package of decorations cost 5.75, how much would 6 packages cost?
3
Equation: The equation would be: y= 5.75x OR f(x)= 5.75x X= the number of packages Y= the total cost
4
Dependent & Independent My dependent variable is y, which is the total cost. My independent variable is x, or the number of packages.
5
Table of Values x5.75xy(x,y) 15.75(1)5.75(1, 5.75) 25.75(2)11.50(2, 11.50) 35.75(3)17.25(3, 17.25) 45.75(4)23.00(4, 23) 55.75(5)28.75(5, 28.75) 65.75(6)34.50(6, 34.50)

Domain and Range Domain is the x values Range is the y values Domain:{5.75, 11.50, 17.75, 23.00, 28.75, 34.50} Range:{1,2,3,4,5,6}
7
Discreet or Continuous? You cannot buy half of a package, only whole packs. No numbers between one and two. It is discreet, because it does not cover all of the points between 5.75 and 34.50.
8
Is it a function? A function is where there is one independent value paired with exactly one dependent value. This means that the x values CAN NOT repeat. Sooooooooo, yes, it is a function; none of the x values reapeat.
9
Package Cost Prices Y values
10
Sooooooooo……. All of the packages of decorations for the halloween party cost 34.50. But that’s without all of the snacks and drinks and candy! Just imagine how much that would cost!
