1 Three Branches of Government By Sharon Giddens and Amy Meath

2 Executive President –Can approve a new law by signing it –Visits other countries –Signs treaties (agreements) with other countries –Communicates with citizens –Leads the armed forces –Keeps lawmakers informed

3 Legislative Congress has two parts –House of Representatives 435 members Representation is determined by each state’s population –Senate 100 members 2 senators per state –Makes up new laws –Decide on taxes

4 Judicial Supreme Court –Nine judges-Justices –President chooses and senate approves Study and interpret laws Determine if a law is fair or not Ask congress to change unfair laws
