REGISTRATION INFORMATION 2016-17 FRESHMEN SEMINAR – APRIL 20, 2016

PURPOSE(S) OF TODAY: 1)Get an idea of what courses are REQUIRED and ELECTIVES for Sophomores next year 2)Learn about the new courses being offered at GHS in 2016-17 3)To have a better idea of what you’re going to take before Monday, April 25 th On Monday, April 25 th – 9 th Graders will be registering with Mr. Keller, Ms. Allen & Ms. Fitzgerald in the Auditorium at 9:00 AM

Now, you guys are going to fill out a preliminary (DRAFT) selection sheet for your course offerings for next year... For the full version of the 2016-17 Course Description Guide go to... Go to the district website (www.grinnell-k12.org)www.grinnell-k12.org Then to “Schools” –> “Grinnell High School” Then to “Academics” (on the left hand side) Then to “GHS Course Description Guide” and then to “2016-17 Course Description Guide” hotlink

TOP SECTION: “REQUIRED COURSES” 1) You need to check English 10A & 10B You might be recommended for a full year of English (10AxB) 2)You need to check your next level of Math (if you are going to complete 1B, you will select 2A & 2B) – if you have questions, check with your counselor or even better, check with your Math Teacher! 3)You need to to check US History 2 & Global Studies 2 (unless you are taking AP US History this year) 4)You need to check Biology A & B (IF you have completed Fundamentals of Science); if not, check Fundamentals of Science & Science Exploration 5)You need to check Intro to Wellness (PE10) – if you want to do Strength & Conditioning (NEW), you may – but it doesn’t replace PE10

BOTTOM SECTION: “ELECTIVES” 1)Ag Courses (Make sure you have Intro to Ag as Pre-reqs to Animal & Soil Science) 2) Business Courses (NEW for 2016-17 “Marketing” – Pre-req is Intro To Business) 3)Yearbook (Instructor approval required – application to Ms. Ahrens) 4)FCS Courses (All “Foods” classes are now Culinary Arts I, II, & III & NEW For 2016- 17 is “Fashion Design”) 5)Industrial Tech/Manufacturing Courses 6)Health Advocacy

AGAIN... 9 th Graders will be registering for their courses for next year with the counselors NEXT MONDAY @ 9:00 AM It is YOUR responsibility to review the 2016-17 Course Description Guide on the Website and have your DRAFT REGISTRATION FORM with you Next Monday when you register for courses
