3 SMART ER Goal Setting  Empowering - Getting to your goals should make you feel good. If you stick with it then you can be stronger, faster, more powerful or lighter. And you should feel better and sleep better.  Revisable - Goals should evolve and be tuned. As you move towards your goals you should be learning new things and this can have an effect on your goals. It’s ok to change your fitness goals every now- and-again (every 6 weeks or so). These goals are yours, own them and they can change as you change.

4 Time scales  Short term goals = 1 week – 10 weeks  Medium term goals = 8 weeks –Year  Long term goals = Ultimate goal

5 Activity 1  Complete this activity by using the SMARTER goal setting technique, set yourself a short, medium and long-term goal for your own sporting performance

6 SWOT  Strengths - Skills the athlete already possesses that will help them achieve their goal.  Opportunities - Areas that the athlete will need to work on in order to achieve their goal.  Weaknesses - Things that may help the athlete achieve their goal, such as sponsorship, training opportunities, upcoming competitions and so on.  Threats - Things that may stand in the way of the athlete achieving their goal, such as injuries or a lack of training opportunities, finance or equipment.  Usually done in consultation with a manager or coach

8 Self and Needs Analysis  On-going analysis of themselves and their needs.  Allows constant monitoring of performance.  Recognises weaknesses  Modify goals – adapting for greater success, and motivation. Looking at your SMARTER goal setting can you identify your goal and think about what is needed to achieve your goal?
