TODAY’S MEETING GOALS Connect S-Term building and district leadership. Clarify logistical details. Review K-4 S-Term Program Manual. Explain curriculum and instruction, including DAE general information and curriculum website.

OVERVIEW OF S-TERM 2016 (SECTION TWO, PAGE 1) S-Term one of multiple programs available to K-4 students. Expecting a total of approximately 2700 students at eight S-Term 1 and four S-Term 2 sites; anticipated increase with online registration. Students attend at their home address area’s site and can be picked up/dropped off at two different locations within that area. June 16 All-Staff Training (site administrators do not attend, site leaders do attend and will be needed 8:00-9:45 to help register participants). Progressive curriculum and instruction to meet the social/emotional and differentiated literacy needs of students.

Health Office staffing Licensed School Nurse (RN) assigned to all sites Largest sites assigned a health assistant (EA2, paraprofessional) Sites without Health Assistant must designate staff to give medication and help with first aid School year building LSN will train the designee if they are currently working

Health Conditions and Disabilities School Nurse reviews students with health conditions and informs staff of emergency Care Plans and conditions requiring immediate attention Common conditions – Heat and dehydration – Seizures – Food allergies – Anaphylaxis to food and insects – Asthma

Food Served PIN #’s at point of sale – PIN #’s are how we assure that we identify students with food allergies or special dietary needs – If PIN numbers are not used, a system must be in place for students with special dietary needs – Nutrition Services supervisor and nurse cannot do this alone Food in classroom

IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL DETAILS Staffing 20:1 for students:teachers; 80:1 for students:paraprofessionals. Staff may be reassigned within first several days of S-Term. Site administrators coordinate schedules of shared staff. Roots of Reading/Seeds of Science teachers paid 7 hours per day. No job sharing; employees work all days of S-Term. IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL DETAILS Hours paid (page 13). Procedures for submitting pay for June 16, June 17, July 15 (pages 14-15). No pay for Monday, July 4. Set-Up Day six hours of pay with 30-minute duty-free lunch. Call/email Deb Middleton with payroll changes after it has been submitted. No prep time during S-Term. Curriculum delivered from 1930 Como, PCMC, Math Teacher’s Press, MN Council of Economics, and Mackin. Consumable materials delivered from Innovative Office Solutions. Lists of curriculum and consumables (end of SECTION FIVE).

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION WHAT’S NEW FOR 2016 Daily Class Community Meetings. Revised literacy curriculum with guided reading texts and Data Zone access (all teachers teach literacy). Librarians working with teachers and St. Paul Public Libraries. New Physical Education curriculum featuring a cooperative learning focus for all K-4 students. Applied Academics for grades three and four can be either Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading or one of the other choices on the DAE curriculum website (site admins request materials). Social/Emotional skill building for all grades three and four students. Immersion literacy curriculum and materials for Spanish, French, and Chinese Immersion students.

Grades three and four social/emotional curriculum taught by counselor with classroom teacher support. June 16 training day includes keynote speaker and breakout sessions for key curriculum components; FAQ #2 essential.

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION (SECTION FIVE) Literacy (revised for 2016) Linda Hoyt Read Aloud teacher manual and read alouds sent to sites. Guided Reading books delivered to sites from Mackin. Classroom independent selections provided by librarian, along with connections to St. Paul Public Libraries, book talks, and media center book check-out. Data Zone access, per homeroom teacher/students. Words Their Way pre- and post tests for grades three and four. K-4 step-by-step pacing guides.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES SECTION SIX Continual Learning Plans (CLPs) All students who attend S-Term even one day need a CLP. Step-by-step instructions; see timeline for when to do what. Special Education (SPED) Students During S-Term IEP does not apply during S-Term unless ESY is noted. If ESY is noted, the SPED department provides support.
