Accelerator Installation Plan: Graphical representation E. Sargsyan & L. Lari DRAFT - March 2016 www.europeanspallationsource.se 21 March 2016
2
Motivation Installation, Testing and Commissioning of the ESS Accelerator and Klystron Gallery is complex, with many constrains and in a short period of time Requires several activities in parallel Visualization in P6 is difficult in particular with respect to the areas Visual representation is necessary to understand better the sequence, parallel activities and cohabitation issues 2
3
Inputs Installation, Testing and Commissioning sequence from E. Tanke RFI dates and activity time windows from P6 Partial and full access dates from CF Discussions with different WPs (sequence, durations, resources, etc.) Naming convention 3

Tunnel installation - NCFE 9 One shielding wall is installed in place of the DTL-5 to allow parallel work in SC Linac section ISRC & LEBT – Installation/assembly in the tunnel 2 weeks (too short?) – Beam commissioning 13 weeks – LEBT dismantling 1 m upstream the RFQ (for bead-pull); need to re-assemble before the RFQ beam commissioning! RFQ – Assembly & tuning 2.2 weeks (too short?) – RF conditioning 15 weeks (too long?) MEBT – Installation/assembly in tunnel 4 weeks during the RFQ conditioning window – need to interrupt the RFQ conditioning – Pre-assemble MEBT sections to minimize time spent in tunnel! ISRC to MEBT beam commissioning 12 weeks DTL – Tanks 3&4 installation 2 weeks in parallel to LEBT partial dismantling – Tanks 3&4 RF conditioning 2 weeks in parallel with the RFQ conditioning – Tank 1 installation 2 weeks – Tank 1 RF conditioning 2 weeks ISRC to DTL-1 beam commissioning 5 weeks DTL – Tank 2 installation 2 weeks – Tank 2 RF conditioning 2 weeks ISRC to DTL-4 beam commissioning 5 weeks Shielding wall dismantling 1-2 weeks DTL – Tank 5 installation 2 weeks – Tank 5 RF conditioning 2 weeks The rest of the accelerator is already installed and cooled down Cold hardware commissioning ISRC to Dump beam commissioning Beam to target

Summary / open issues Installation, Testing and Commissioning of the Accelerator & Gallery is complex and with many constrains – need to be well organized, with a daily coordination Parallel activities of different teams are necessary to meet June 2019 milestone A2T installation not considered due to missing access date Durations and number of teams/people are only estimates – need to write installation procedures and perform benchmark tests (sequence, duration), if necessary Need to write hardware commissioning/test procedures & synchronize the coordination with the installation Some RFI dates may need to be reviewed Need to consider the availability of PSS Stub fire and radiation sealing/shielding TBD (scope & budget) Still requires several iterations and review by all WPs - synchronization 16
