6.EE.9 Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variable.

6.EE.9 Use variables to represent two quantities in a real- world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation. For example, in a problem involving motion at constant speed, list and graph ordered pairs of distances and times, and write the equation d=65t to represent the relationship between distance and time.

Identify the dependent and independent variable A.Charting Age and Height B.Price of Bananas per pound C.Distance covered at a constant speed D.DVD’s for sale $5.00 each

Given the equation x + 3 = y If x = 7, then y = 10. Identify the independent and the dependent variable.

On a bicycle Carlos can ride at a rate of 5.11 miles per hour. If he rides for t hours, how far will he ride? This situation can be modeled using the equation d=5.11t where d represents the distance and t represents the time. Which variable is independent and dependent?

In Brazil, the temperature is reported in degrees Celsius, °C. If the temperature in the United Stated is given in Fahrenheit, °F. What would the temperature be reported in Brazil? This can be modeled with the equation: Where °C represents the temperature in Celsius and °F represents the temperature in Fahrenheit. Which is the independent variable and why?

Create Give a situation that gives an independent and dependent variable

Given the graph identify the independent and dependent variable.

I started walking to the park at a rate of 3 mph. I got to the park after 10 min. How far away is the park? Use a graph, table, tape diagram or double number line diagram to explain your thinking. What equation could you use to solve?

The sixth graders are making punch for the middle school picnic. The need to use 26.5 gallons of juice. The juice is only sold in liter bottles. How many liter bottles do they need to purchase to make the punch? What equation did you use to get your solution?

Every minute 50 trees are cut down to make 85,851 chopsticks 1.If 515,106 chopsticks were made, how many minutes did it take? 2.How many chopsticks were made in 10 minutes? 3.If 500 trees were cut down, how many minutes have past? 4.How long does it take to cut down 10 trees? 5.If 2,000 tress were cut down, how many minutes have past? 6.In 3 ½ minutes, how many tress were cut down? Minute (m)1234 Trees cut down (t) 50100150200 Number of chopsticks made (c) 85,851171,702257,553343,404

The hibernating American Black Bear’s heartbeat is 8 beats per minute. After an hour, how many times did the bear’s heart beat? Represent the relationship between the time and number of heart beats Create an equation Create a table Create a graph

Extension: Given the situation or variables, identify which are continuous (line) or discrete (points) A.Tania bought books for $15 each B.A heart beats 68 times per minute C.Y = x + 2 D.Table X 12345 Y 34567
