1. A Book Has Many Parts! Grade 3 Mrs. Ramseier
One way to practice good book care is to make a cover for your own books, especially for a book you will keep for a long time! Covers help protect the pages inside of a book. It is just as important to take care of your own books as it is to take care of library books. So we are going to make a cover for the books you are creating. You may ask, What book is that? Well, I have been keeping all the activity sheets you have completed so far and we will be making a book out of them.
As you continue to complete library activity sheets, I will continue to add them to your “book!” That way, at the end of the year, you will have a book of all the library skills you learned this year!
You need to be thinking how you will design the cover for your book! First, though, we need to review the many parts of a book and what information you find on each so you can properly design and create your own book cover.

If the book has pictures in it, you may see the name of the person who created those pictures on the title page. This person is called the illustrator.

How can you find out what a book is about? You can look at the second page of a book. It is called the Table of Contents. The Table of Contents tells where you will find the beginning page of each chapter.

B. Chapter 4 starts on page 7.
C. Chapter 2 is about
bugs and flowers.
D. Chapter 3 starts on page 6.
When this slide comes up, the only things to students will see are the slide title and an example of a “table of contents” page. CLICK to get the first sentence to appear, “Chapter1 is titled.” After a student verbally completes the sentence, CLICK again for the answer to appear. Now CLICK, read second sentence, have a student answer correctly and CLICK again for the answer to appear. Continue through the last sentence.
