Good morning everyone. At last Friday’s P4-7 assembly we had visitors, Andy and Pamela who came to speak to us about Fairtrade. Andy from Koolskools spoke to us about Fairtrade Products. This is the Fairtrade symbol (above). Most of us had seen this on chocolate and different fruits like bananas but Andy came to speak to us about Fairtrade cotton and CraftAid. He spoke to us about how the cotton in the fields become a jumper that we wear, how long it takes, how many factories it has to go to. Andy introduced Pamela who now works for CraftAid. Pamela was a lady from Mauritius who spoke about her life before CraftAid. She described working very long hours for little pay. Her story was a very sad one. Pamela now works for CraftAid and has a much better life with lots of happiness because she is getting a fairer pay and working hours. Eco Club

Andy and Pamela came to show us some of her products that the factory she works in makes. They look like our school tops, but the difference is they’re Fairtrade products. Andy was impressed by how well we listened and the quality of our answers and questions. We could have gone on talking for far longer. Today is the start of Fairtrade Fortnight. Pamela said, “You just need to buy one Fairtrade product and this saves a life and makes it better”. Together we can make a difference! 5E are on LAW duty this week. Thank you for listening. Eco Club
