School Council have decided to have a ‘Fairtrade cafe’ in the playground. We are going to host this on the first Friday of every month. We are doing this to help farmers get a fair price for what they grow. We are also doing this for the school too – we are hoping to make a profit!

Fairtrade is a very helpful thing to farmers in small countries to make sure they get a FAIR price for what they’re selling. Before fairtrade, chocolate companies such as Cadburys could give farmers only half the price of what coco beans are worth. Now Cadbury’s have the Fairtrade logo – which means they give them the full and fair price! There are now hundreds of Fair Trade products – see how many you can spot when you next go shopping. Look for the logo!

We hope to use the profit we make to buy things for the playground. But we’ll ask children first! We are hoping to visdt a local Co-op to learn more about Fairtrade.
