2. Current performance Salford continues to reduce overall crime – on target and a reduction of 7% from the same period last year (380 fewer crimes). Serious acquisitive crime is down 19% from the same period last year (over 200 fewer crimes). Domestic burglary rates have improved compared to the Home Office’s Most Similar Family Group. This is a 14% improvement on the same period last year. Vehicle crimes in Salford continue to decrease, down 19% from the same period last year. For serious violent crime, Salford has dropped down from the second highest rate in Greater Manchester to the fifth lowest (Q1 to Q2).

3. Current performance The drug related (Class A) offending rate is currently 19.6% compared to a Most Similar Family Group rate of 28%. Salford had the third highest rate in England of alcohol related hospital admission rates behind Manchester and Middlesborough. Quarter 4 2010/11 saw a levelling off in the admission rate in Salford, in line with the regional and national trend. The domestic abuse sanction detection rate has increased from 59% to 62% in quarter 2, exceeding the target of 58%. Domestic abuse cases referred to MARAC have increased by 12% this quarter (quarter two).

4. Current risks/threats Maintaining crime and disorder reductions in times of economic downturn. Potential for increased levels of: Serious acquisitive crime (burglary, car theft, metal theft) Re-offending rates/recidivism Drug and alcohol misuse Violent disorder and nuisance Domestic abuse At a time of reductions in resources across the partnership.

5. Partnership response to threats The CSP will continue to use the GMAC model to identify local and emerging trends and agree partnership interventions through the Partnership Delivery Group. The Community Safety Strategy action plan has recently been reviewed and will be refreshed in the next quarter. CSP Executive Group scrutinises performance against targets through quarterly monitoring reports.
