THEME OF PRESENTATION Teenagers believe that violence is the answer to everything.

DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH QUESTION AND TOPIC: Research Question: “What influences teenagers to participate in violent activities?” Topic: Teenage Violence Description: Teenagers believe that violence is the answer to everything.

FIRST QUOTE OF ROMEO & JULIET “Draw Benvolio; beat down their weapons./ Gentlemen for shame! Forbear this outrage!” (Shakespeare 3.1.81-82) Mercutio and Tybalt are fighting,Romeo tells Benvolio to stop them. They believe even in Romeo and Juliet violence is the answer.

SECOND QUOTE OF ROMEO AND JULIET "Part, fools! Put up your swords. You know not what you do." [They fight.] Montague's and Capulet's fight. This quote proves that violence is the answer to their problem.

THIRD QUOTE OF ROMEO AND JULIET "Wilt thou provoke me? Then have at thee, boy!" [They fight.] (Shakespeare 5.3 70) Romeo and Paris fight. Romeo kills Paris. It is a fight between Montague’ and Capulet’s and their answer to it is violene.

YOUTH VIOLENCE CONT. A recent report from the U.S. Department of Justice showed that on average youth aged 12-17 were about 2.5 times as likely as adults to be the victim of a nonfatal violent crime. They were twice as likely to be robbery or aggravated assault victims, 2.5 times as likely to be victims of a rape or sexual assault, and almost 3 times as likely to be victims of a simple assault The National Survey of Adolescents found that 13% of girls and 3.4% of boys reported being sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. The same survey reported that 21.3% of boys and 13.4% of girls experienced physical assault, and 43.6% of boys and 35% of girls reported having witnessed violence at some time in their lives Being victimized increases the likelihood of committing later offenses and engaging in aggressive and violent behavior. It also increases the likelihood of being victimized again. More can be done to interrupt this cycle and ensure the safe and successful transition from adolescence to adulthood

STATISTICS OF TEENAGE VIOLENCE The 2009 data were culled from interviews with 1,413 students in 42 public high schools in Oklahoma last spring. A total of 87 questions dealt with such behaviors as violence, tobacco use, alcohol and other drug use, and sexual activity Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injury and violence long have been a primary target of public health efforts because those are the primary cause of injury and death among young people Last year in Oklahoma, about two out of every 10 high school students felt so concerned about their safety they carried a weapon such as a gun, knife or club with them on at least one occasion

INFLUENCES Teens that participate in violence typically face problems with jobs, living conditions, isolation and segregation society. These situations and conditions tend to cause the teens to do even more violence. Gangs influence teen violence Gangs are usually made up of groups of male adolescents who have grown up together as children, in a poor neighborhood

CONCLUSION Many things influence teenagers to participate in violent activities Including gangs, being a victim of violence, relationships, drug and alcohol use, and many more
