7. Ice – Icebergs: a large piece of freshwater ice floating in open waters – Glaciers: any large mass of ice that moves slowly over land

8. Groundwater What is groundwater? – The water found in cracks and pores in sand, gravel and rocks below the earth’s surface What is an aquifer? – A porous rock layer underground that is a reservoir for water

9. Lack of Water Drought- lack of water caused by low rainfall. Irrigation- to water by artificial means such as diverting streams, flooding or spraying.

10. Pollution Since water is easily polluted, we must clean it before we can drink it! – Can lead to water shortages – Millions die every year from lack of water / poor quality of water – Underdeveloped countries have poor methods to clean water.

13. Ways to Conserve Water: Take shorter showers. Fix leaky faucets and toilets. Conserve electricity. Only flush toilets when necessary. Run the dish washer and washer only when they are full and need to be washed.
