Baby MIND Module Cabling Options 27 th January 2016 F. Cadoux, Y. Favre, L. Nicola, E. Noah

Context for cabling We have sufficient info on design constraints to be able to recognise the pros and cons of different cabling approaches,... but significant information is still lacking, such as full costing and validation of all options (e.g. feasibility of very long cables!). Modularity and flexibility has to be built in: the detector will be assembled at T9, then dismantled, packed, shipped and re-assembled at J-PARC. Some specific constraints: – dimension of module: roughly 2 m × 3 m – # of horizontal channels/module left = 95 – # of horizontal channels/module right = 95 – # of vertical channels/module top = 32 Current electronics FEB design accomodates 96 channels max.

T9 and J-PARC Installations Installation at T9 Dismantling Packing Shipping Installation at J-PARC

Options General architecture: FEB position: ①FEB rack mounted ②FEB on module: side and top ③FEB on module: side only: left and right ④FEB on module: side only: left only Electronics FEB options a)4 x 32 channels: 1 module XY: X A i, X B i, Y A i, Y B i b)3 x 32 + 1 x 32 channels: 1 module XY: X A i, X B i, Y A i, Y B i c)3 x 32 + 3 x 32 channels (1 CITIROC mounted): 1 module XY: X A i, X B i, Y A i, Y B i d)3 x 32 + 3 x 32 channels: 1 module X + 3 modules Y: X A i, X B i, Y A i,j,k, Y B i,j,k Cabling specifics Cabling two Y A, Y B to one FEB Cabling 6 Y A i,j,k and Y B i,j,k to one FEB Cabling Y or light tight cable tray Connector orientation Y w.r.t FEB parallel or perpendicular.

Summary Selection of cabling option for detector modules has a significant impact on: mechanics integration electronics, potentially new design of FEB Most design constraints are known: module dimensions and # of channels costing not fully evaluated more information on magnet cabling required Plan to finalise selection of cabling option by: 1 st February
