SALSA Salsa is a rhythm derived from influences varying from African drum rhythms, Spanish guitar music, and other rhythms from Cuba and Puerto Rico. It has become so popular that many regions have created their own styles. There are retreats, boot camps, nightclubs, competitions, cruises and workshops all over the world dedicated to share the love for this dance.

7
Method used to find information Descriptive method will be used to find out information needed
8
What is needed? What we need is a salsa social that can be available to those interested in dancing an additional night a week Classes and Social event costs can be expensive over time. We need a free event. Sunday is a night we can use to have a venue potentially at no price to attendees.
9
Con’t We need a central location. We need entertainment such as DJ or live band. We can potentially provide classes for people new to the scene.
10
Means to gather data In order to obtain information 50 surveys to be given out Survey to be taken only by dance regulars. Both women and men who attend dance socials. Self administration survey. Question/answer format.
11
Survey development A series of questions/response format will be used in this survey Dichotomous question format in order to have clear to the point answers. Avoid open-ended question as they can confuse the research. Only a few multiple choice will be used as I want to make it easier to collect data. We will use dancing wording. (i.e Casino, On 1)
12
Pre-test of survey Five people took the initial survey to help identify what questions needed to be added and what questions need elaboration. Responses include: Responders rather have a Live Band than a DJ Downtown is not ideal for an event After the pre-test, questions in regards of price were included.
13
SURVEY RESULTS 50 participants were interviewed within a three week span Both males and females I also tried to include a range of people. Some that have been dancing for a while and viceversa.
14
RESULTS 2 of the interviewed had less than 6 months experience in the social dancing scene. 12 of the respondents have been dancing for 1 year. 36 people have been Salsa dancing for about 2+ years.
15
Date and Time Results The data collected for this lets us know that Out of 50 participants 37 of them like Sunday to come out to dance. 33 of the 50 would like to come out to dance from 7-10:30PM. THAT IS MORE THAN 50%!! We are on the right track
16
RESULTS - LOCATION 43 of the 50 interviewed state that the location is very important to them. 17 of the 50 said that Downtown is a good location for the event. We need to re-think strategy and move somewhere like St. Matthews, or Highlands area.
17
COMMUNICATION RESULTS 66% of the participants look at their Facebook event invitations to find out social dance event. Social Media is not the only way. How can we reach the 44% left? Bring flyers to current events. Bring flyers to local studios. 33 people who looked at Facebook events only 11 are males and 22 females. Why is this important? It takes two to salsa
