2 Interview for the Prestigious Position Available at Your Educational System Lana Lopez

3 Hello, my name is Lana Lopez. I am applying for the position available for mentoring the sixth grade level in Reading and Language Arts at your academy. I have a bachelors degree in social science with a minor in psychology and sociology. This will give me an added benefit in understanding students of this age group. I have a master’s degree in education and I am a continual learner to keep abreast of new technological advancements as well as new teaching techniques.

4 My Philosophy of Education I believe that as a teacher my goal is to provide students with 21 st century skills and to encourage students to use their skills to find new ways to address the problems given them, while letting them collaborate with other students to learn life skills as well as the mastery of content.

5 Classroom Management Plan Provide an environment that is comfortable and provides an atmosphere that is safe to explore questions and find answers. Students will help collaborate to develop the class rules and expectations. Consequences for misbehavior will be agreed upon at the beginning of the year. Students will develop lifelong critical thinking skills, collaboration skills, and interpersonal relationship skills (ISTE Standards Teachers).

6 Different School Models Traditional classrooms provide students with limited technology, and they must keep core standards in mind when determining lesson plans. Time can become an issue when some students take longer to grasp a topic. Homeschool classrooms have free range when developing topics that interest the student. Additional time can be spent on a topic that a student may have trouble with.

7 Effective Lesson Planning Using Backward Design can help achieve the goal of core standards. By starting at the goal and working a lesson plan that builds on each skill until the end goal is mastered helps organize specific goals throughout the course year. Remembering that the activities in themselves are not important but the lesson learned through the use of activities is the goal.

8 Assessment Matters Using Formative Assessments can help teachers and students understand where the student is at in understanding the content. Teachers can use formative assessments to plan the next lesson. Changes can be made to teaching techniques if students are not grasping the ideas with the current approach. Summative Assessments can be used to evaluate students at the end of a course and give the base idea of where the student stands in their educational goals for the future. (Rystad,2013).

9 Professional Learning Communities Teachers can stay connected with current research, teaching strategies and other teachers with the same goals by engaging in various organizations. These professional learning communities can help “provides teachers with an opportunity to gain a larger perspective on the educational landscape, connect with other educators, and network with people across the nation and the world”(Newman, 2012,14,3). Students are only as successful as the teachers that teach them to learn. It is important for teachers to be continual learners alongside their students.
