North Fraser Education Task Force Task Force (ETF) formed to advance strategic priorities. Goals / Activities: – Establish Terms of Reference – Hold economic forum to reconnect with Invest North Fraser 2010 Education Forum participants and update them on BC Jobs Plan post secondary – related projects – Secure funding from Social Development. BCIT project manager for Labour Market study with key sectors, industry, universities and others

background: 2014: Education Task Force achievements: held Education Forum, received Provincial funding, Steering Committee formed, Labour Market research RFP issued, received 5 well- qualified responses, Malatest Market Research selected, monthly progress reports to Province 2013: Education Task Force formed. Initial meeting held, Terms of Reference established 2012 / 2013: North Fraser partners continue focus on BC Jobs Plan priorities 2011 – BC Jobs Plan pilot: Strengthened relationships w/ key industry & post secondary; identified priority projects 2010 – Education Forum: this initiative was basis for our selection as BC Jobs Plan pilot

Some preliminary survey results: 63% of the businesses surveyed think their business will expand in the next 5 years. 66% of the businesses surveyed believe that their workforce will increase between now and 2024. 36% of the businesses surveyed do not feel that there is an adequate supply of skilled workers in the region 35% of the businesses surveyed do not believe that qualified workers are willing to relocate to the region More to come….

roles / needs / timing: North Fraser Municipalities: ‘welcome host / facilitator / connector’ to achieve long term goals of multi- institutional post secondary Post secondary: Need 5 – 10 year ‘demand’ / Strategy, business case Priority sector industries (Technology, Education, Tourism, Agriculture) ‘ready’ skilled labour pool to fill demand (retirements, succession),Partnerships, models for success Education Task Force (champions, ambassadors, visionaries, connectors)
