2 Introduction Objective: to consider borrowings as one of the main ways of word formation in English language. Tasks: 1)Consider the most important sources and pathways of borrowing in English 2)Determine their role and place in the vocabulary of the English language 3)Identify the features of the borrowings 4)Systematize borrowings

The role of borrowings in the development of the English language vocabulary Role of borrowings in different languages is unequally and depends on the specific historical conditions of the development of each language. Native words in modern English prepositionsadverbs of time and place almost all strong verbs all numerals conjuctionsall auxiliary and modal verbs nearly all the pronouns and adjectives many nouns

Classification of borrowings According to the source, and the era of borrowing in the vocabulary of the English language are distinguished: Celtic borrowingsLatin borrowings XV-XVI 'century, associated with the era Renaissance Scandinavian borrowings of the Scandinavian raids. 5) Old French borrowings (XII-XV centuries) Latin borrowings the first centuries AD New French borrowings after the XVI century. Sovietisms Latin borrowings VI-VII centuries., that is the introduction of the era Christianity in England Borrowing from the Greek, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, German and others languages

Studying of them allows us to trace the complexity of the linguistic processes Intertwining of internal and external phenomena in the language Effects of the latter in the various parts of the language structure
