BACKGROUND In 2015, 2352 students applied for 1821 emergency medicine (EM) residency positions at 171 programs o 1613 4 th year MDs o 739 non-4 th year MD, osteopathic [DO], and international medical graduates [IMGs] Number of applications per interview offer is increasing o In 2015, matched US seniors submitted a median 39 applications to obtain 19 interview offers (2:1) o In 2009, it took only 26 applications to obtain 17 interview offers in 2009 (1.5:1) Many programs report using filters to screen applicants #CORDAA16 OBJECTIVE To determine which factors applicants consider most important when selecting an EM residency program METHODS Anonymous web-based survey Two thousand 3rd and 4th year medical students Students asked to select 7 program factors from a list of 16 options that they consider most important in selecting an EM residency program Preference for geographic location, length of training, and program accreditation type were omitted as the importance of these have previously been validated RESULTS 261 respondents (13% response rate) 210 (80.5%) were 4th years, 51 (19.5%) were 3 rd years 67.3% of respondents were MD students, 26.5% were DO, and 6.2% were IMGs Zach Jarou, Sean Ochsenbein, Doug Franzen, Fiona Gallahue, Hilary Fairbrother, Kevin Hu, Adam Kellogg Denver Health/UColorado, Quillen @ ETSU, UWashington, NYU, Mount Sinai, Baystate/Tufts
