3. What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? *It is the stage that your child will be in if they attend a setting between birth and the age of five. *During your child’s first year at school they will be in the Early Years Foundation Stage class, also known as the Early Years or Reception. *The EYFS Curriculum is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning and is divided in to seven areas, 3 ‘Prime Areas’ and 4 ‘Specific Areas.’

7. Structure of the Day   ‘Free Flow’ from start (until children are ready for more structured start to the day.)   Teaching focuses throughout the day e.g. Phonics, Mathematics, Writing.   Adult directed and adult structured tasks.   Planned independent tasks ‘Must Do’ jobs.   Worship.   School family break times

8. Phonics & Reading Importance of ‘Pure’ sounds. Phonics websites sheets in pack. Children will begin with a book without words – important stage in reading. Please also share a range of books/ stories together, possibly visit your local library - promote a love of reading. Key rings – phonics, rocket words and stage words. Reading record books – please write comments.

9. What do we do for Transition?   Induction Evening (Now) and Induction Pack   Home visits (Mon 27 th, Tues 28 th or Wed 29 th June) - this is not an inspection! We’ll arrange at the end of this meeting.   Nursery/ Pre-school visits – as many as we can (telephone).   Monday 4 th July - 9.00-10.00am – Stay and Play with Parents (one per child).   Tuesday 5 th July – 9.00-11.00am – Induction Morning – just children.   Friday 8 th July – 3.15-5.00pm – Your welcome to come to our Summer Fete.

10. What do we do for Transition? Managed induction period: Monday 5 th September 2016 – All Children’s first part time day. We will stagger the start times to help the children settle. Your time will be 8.40am or 9.30am until 11.50am. Tuesday 6 th September until Friday 17 th September 2016 – 8.40am to 11.50am – Part time morning sessions. Monday 19 th until Friday 24 th September 2016 – 8.40am to 12.50pm – Part time morning sessions and stay for lunch. From Monday 26 th September – 8.40am - 3.10pm - Full time at school.

Home/School Links   Weekly ‘Home Learning’ tasks   Parent observations (termly formal observation sheet but anytime informally – post it’s) to go into your child’s ‘Tree-mendous Me!’ book.   ‘Stay and Play’ sessions throughout the year   ‘Book and Biscuit’ sessions throughout the year   x2 formal parent consultation evenings per year   End of year progress report   FS Team available to help each morning for messages (you can book an appointment with the Class Teacher should you need to discuss a particular subject)   Making use of parent/carer’s skills e.g. visiting police officers etc.   Parents invited in to read a story to the class.   Reading record diaries.

12. Top Tips   Please name everything – if it’s named it comes back!   Show boys urinals!   Use the resources/ information in your induction pack to help prepare your child for school.   Check your child’s bookbag on a regular basis for letters. Please also read emails and text messages from the school to ensure you are informed of all events.

14. Administration Medication sheets. Any Medical information/ allergies – Please make Miss Clavey aware of these on the home visit. Sickness – Ring school phone number before 9.30am. Absence procedure. Free Hot Meals. Pupil Premium (Free School Meals) sheet – only fill in if you are receiving help/ benefits from government. Milk – Separate company free until 5 then to be paid for (still need to fill in sheet in induction pack to receive). Uniform and bookbags can be purchased from The Schoolwear Shop - 40 Abington Square, Northampton. PE kit – you will not need this until after Christmas. After School Clubs
