CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI The City was established in 1989 as a railway depot to serve Kenya – Uganda railway. In 1950, Nairobi was granted city status through a Royal Charter by the British Colonial Administration

CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI The City was latter thereafter recognized under the Local Government Act (Cap. 265)which came in effect in January 1964

CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI The City was established as a Municipal council in 1935 with a population of 200,000 Currently population has grown to approximately 3.5M people The City covers an area of about 680 square Km.

Nairobi is the political and Administrative center of the Republic of Kenya It is the largest metropolitan City in East Africa The strategic location has made the Nairobi an important commercial Hub, financial, Industrial, Education and Communication in East Africa

CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI The City host the headquarters of various international organizations including UNEP and UN-HABITAT The City contributes to over 60% of the countries GDP and has the most developed financial and service in the region

CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI The city has 16 departments with 11,285 Employees The council has decentralized its service delivery into eight (8) division and 74 ward respectively The City embraces eight (8) no. constituencies represented by a Member of Parliament

CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI On political governance the City has a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 98 Councillors 74 Councillors are elected while others are nominated Administratively the City has a Town Clerk who is the Chief Executive Officer

E-Government related initiatives Intergrated software- Laifoms e-Payment E-CONSTRUCTION for approval of building plans BUILDINGS IN CBD BEING CLASSFIED BY ROADS e.g 1 wabera street – traceability and visibility Public transport operators encouraged to operate as registered groups

Good practices Keeping records of deaths and births to know trends as this helps in planning e.g for schools
