2  EU project  september 2013 – august 2015  six partners/museums (sweden, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Slovenia)  aim: recording and preserving sounds connected to work

3 Why sounds? part of working and everyday life; important aspect when we want to experience, explore, reconstruct and understand different landscapes, environments and cultural heritage; historical sounds are vanishing change of contemporary sounds (progress) not many have been recorded in the past (luck of specific, isolated sounds); poor documentation in museums so far;

4 Outcome? 650recorded sounds; publicly available without any restrictions (no copyright, no authors rights, free to use and remake); “museum quality stamp” www.workwithsound.eu www.workwithsound.eu Europeana Wikimedia Commons Facebook positive response (media, followers, users, enthusiasts)

6 Sounds in Museums? another dimension comparison before and now better understanding of objects, past, heritage brings objects “alive” helps preserve objects evokes memories, emotions suitable for different target groups great tool for disabled people enables interactivity

8 Creative Use of Sounds TMS project evolved from Work with Sounds team work collaboration with Faculty of Architecture goal: interactive, fun, educational for different target groups using knowledge and technology

9 Design Concept combination: sound and story implemented in existing permanent exhibitions functional, practical, durable suitable for different target groups possibility to upgrade

10 9 Interactive Stations Famillies: illustrations - cartoon book, with sounds collecting stamps Adults and young visitors: screens with sounds and videos Groups: Addapted guided tours Internet

11 9 Stories, Many Unusual Characters funny and unusual names conected to objects/work build a story around them fun and educational interactive, playful Madman– heavy hammer Fox tail – hand saw Fool - flail Jerk- adz Dragon – name of the factory for agricultural machinery Rabbit – logo for TOMOS motorbike factory Prince, tinsnail, frog, beattle – nick name for cars
