What’s matter? EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE CONSISTS OF MATTER. IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT FORMS.IT CAN BE A SOLID, A LIQUID OR A GAS.
3
SOLIDLIQUIDGAS IT HOLDS A SHAPE. MOLECULES CAN’T MOVE. IT CHANGES SHAPE. MOLECULES CAN MOVE BUT STAY TOGETHER. IT SPREADS OUT. MOLECULES MOVE AROUND.
5
In the lab We see the characteristics of solids and we measure their volume We see the characteristics of liquids We see the characteristics of gas
7
The thermal expansion is a physical process in which matter (liquid, gas or solid) increases in volume or space as the temperature increases
8
We use the linear dilator and the Gravesande’s ball and ring to see the expansion of solids
9
We use the beaker with some water and the heating plate to see the expansion of liquids
10
We use a glass bottle and a balloon to see the expansion of gas

12
Matter can change form. A solid can become a liquid and a liquid can become a gas. Heat causes these changes. Water is a good example of how matter can have these three different states.
13
We put the ice in a glass on the hot stove… …and the ice melts
14
At one hundred degrees water begins to evaporate
15
THE WATER CYCLE IS …… Water changes form every day in the water cycle. The water cycle is a natural event and it is very important for our weather. The water cycle is also responsible for rain. Rain gives us water and water is essential for life.
16
THE WATER CYCLE EVAPORATES COOLS AND CONDESES RAINING RETURNS TO THE SEA
