3 HUMOROUS  Funny, lighthearted, and informal

4 TONE  The attitude expressed by the author through the use of certain words.

5 DIALECT  A form of language that is spoken in a particular part of the country or by a particular group of people. Contains words, phrases, or pronunciation different than other groups.

6 SIMILE  A comparison using “like” or “as”

7 HYPERBOLE  An exaggerated statement that is not meant to be taken literally

8 VOICE  A point of view and personal style that makes one’s writing unique. Dialect can enhance this.

9 CONCLUSION  Good writers want to leave a lasting impression on the reader; hence they need to use vivid, sophisticated words or phrases in their essays.

10 REVISE  To make major changes in one’s writing. The writer must make changes to make their writing more coherent, interesting, and memorable.
