Echo Mann Period 10 English 1000

Title: The WatchersAuthor: Dean Koontz Pub. Date: 1987Publisher: Putnam Num. Pages: 352Genre: Suspense/Horror Audience: 16+ The Watchers by Dean Koontz is, at it’s heart, a book about the love for a dog. It is also a fight between good and evil and the darkness that lives in the hearts of men. The book follows Travis, Nora, and Einstein the dog as they fight against the government, a killer, and the evil they created, while finding love and companionship.

0 stars – does not include this idea; the book should never have been read in the first place 1 star – does not explore this idea well; do not read again 2 stars – explores the idea a little, but not in any depth; maybe read again 3 stars – explores the idea in full; read again and recommend to others

Without action, there is no story. No one wants to read a story where nothing happens. Nonstop, crazy fun action! This book has so much going on it would be confusing if the writer wasn’t so good at keeping you on track. Rating: 3 stars

You have to like the people you’re reading about. If they aren’t developed enough for you to care, you’re not going to want to read about them. These characters LIVE in the book! If you only read it for the character of Einstein, that would be enough, and you know if someone can write a book where a dog has an engaging character, humans are easy. Rating: 3 stars

Life can’t be serious all the time, I want to laugh and see the sarcasm of the characters. I want to know what they find funny and chuckle even while I scream in horror. I want lots of emotion. This book contains a wealth of emotions. You will hide under the covers with the mention of the Outsider, laugh at the antics of Einstein, fall in love along with Travis and Nora, bite your nails at the edge-of-your-seat tension as they narrowly avoid the government and hired guns… I can’t think of any emotions that weren’t represented in the pages of this book, right down to the intense sorrow and pity that came at the end. Rating: 3 stars

I highly recommend this book! The action, characters, and the element of humor are just part of what makes this one of the best books I’ve ever read. If you like dogs at all, this book is a no- brainer. I will read this book many times, I’m sure, and I don’t see it ever getting old. Anyone who likes to be scared, likes a happy ending, likes suspense, and likes a good cry should read this book.
