Lessons from Deuteronomy 6:24 Deuteronomy 6:21-25
3
Observe All These Statutes Every definition assigned to the “statutes” point to an active response required by a given order It was well understood by Israel that this was required of them Reaction before the law was given (Ex. 19:1-8) Reaction after the law was given (Ex. 24:3)
4
The New Testament also has statutes to be obeyed Hear Jesus and do His sayings (Matt. 7:24) Observe all Jesus has commanded (Matt. 28:20) Commandments of the Lord (1 Cor. 14:37)
5
God has never given a law that cannot be followed Romans 10:5. Problem was that Israel didn’t do it (Eze. 20:11-13) 1 John 5:2-3. It can be done EASILY Yet, the law is referred to as a “yoke of bondage” (Gal. 5:1). {I believe this because of the inability to forgive sin and that without Christ the law had no end}. Nevertheless, Jesus said He had a yoke and it was easy (Matt. 11:28-30)
6
Fear The Lord Our God “Fear” is “respect, awe, reverence” On fear (Psa. 96:4; 112:1) On reverence (Matthew 10:28; Acts 10:2, 22, 34-35; Rev. 14:7) God is to be revered as the God of heaven and earth. It is folly when we lower Him from His exalted position to one of our “buddy” or “Daddy”
7
For Our Good Always None of the statutes of God in any dispensation are harmful in any way! See Proverbs 9:12 (re. v. 10) This is excellently explained in Romans 6:16-23 God shows us the way to being pure, moral, upright, fair, kind, etc. Whom does this harm?
8
For Our Survival In the Old Testament it often referred to the physical (Deut. 4:1-4) In the New Testament we would call attention to spiritual life culminating in eternal life (Jn. 10:10; 2 Peter 1:11; Gal. 6:8)
