13 All North American Stamping and Assembly Plants FORD’S QUALITY GAINS ARE SLICING WARRANTY COSTS “Ford Motor Co. says its efforts to improve vehicle quality—including cooperation from unions at the plant level—helped reduced warranty costs by $700 million in the first six months of 2007. Joe Hinrichs, vice president of North American manufacturing, told attendees yesterday at the Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Mich., that Ford is benefiting from standardized manufacturing processes and the use of computer-aided manufacturing systems to forestall factory problems.
