3  In other cases… They are used to form adjectives from verbs

4 Examples  Cerrar means to close  Cerrado means closed  Perder means to lose  Perdido means lost

5 In Spanish  How do you create a past participle in Spanish? 1. start with the verb 2. drop the ending 3. add –ado (-ar verbs) or –ido (-er/-ir verbs)

6 *Note  All verbs have a past participle but you might not ever use it.  The purpose of this lesson is to get you to recognize “roots” of verbs and to decide if it is used as an adjective or a verb.

7 Other examples  Enojarse  Cansar  Apagar  Dormir  Vestir  enamorarse  Enojado  Cansado  Apagado  Dormido  Vestido  enamorado

8 Watch Out!!!  Remember…these are adjectives so they must agree with nouns in both gender and number.

9 Adjective + Noun agreement  The boy is angry.  El chico está enojado  The girl is angry  La chica está enojada.
