3 Tulane University 3 Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate how to correctly record those hours that are an exception to regular hours on the Monthly Employee Exception Time report.

12 Tulane University 12 FAQs 1.Do I have to report less than four hours of missed time? The staff handbook requires exempt employees report half day increments. Any absence should be reported in advance to your supervisor. 2.Should I turn in an exception report even if I don’t have any time to report? No. Payroll does not require exempt employees to turn in an exception report if they have not taken any sick/vac/other unpaid time. 3.Last week, I took care of a personal matter and was out of the office for approximately 2 hours. Do I need to complete an exception report? While an exception report is not required, you should have received prior approval from your supervisor for this absence. Employees with patterns of abuse may be subject to disciplinary action. 4.As an exempt employee, do I have the discretion to set my own schedule? No. All employees are required to work during normal hours of operation. Any deviation from standard hours must be approved by your supervisor. 5.Can I decide which hours should be charged to sick time and vacation time when I am out of the office? No. Sick time should only be taken in the event you are sick.
