3 Introduction Pharmabridge is part of the FIP Board of Pharmacy Objective: strengthening pharmacy services and pharmacy education in developing and transitional countries (promoting contacts, networking) Linking needs and offers identified by participants upon registration Support to institutions and individual pharmacists

7 Book and Journal donations ASHP: AHFS DI (1000 plus), Over 8000 copies of various titles to pharmacy schools e.g.:The Pharmacists Drug Handbook, Handbook Inject. Drugs etc. 4 ASHP titles reprinted in India APhA: 80 sets of 5 reference books (10 annually) Merck: 50 sets of Merck publications Wolters Kluwers: 2013: 900 books of 26 titles to Pharmacy School in Sierra Leone), 50 books to Pharmacy School in Mekelle (Ethiopia) ACCP: Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program 3000 books (2012), 80 books, various titles (2013) US students and Individuals (more than 50) forwarding books and journals to over 70 parties; specially requested books e.g. to Ethiopia, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda Uganda. Individual practice exposure: clinical pharmacy, drug information and analytical chemistry (1) 8 Since 2001 and by end 2013: close to 70 individuals (from Chile, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Peru, Uganda) will have been offered practice exposure in Canada, Finland, Ghana, India, Spain, UK, USA Quotes from Pharmabridge trainees: “…it is not an exaggerated fact that this training program has changed our teaching/training style”. “I really feel and wish that more people from developing countries should get such opportunities to bring up this profession in respective countries” Pharmabridgeclub electronic network (Pharmabridge alumni): used mainly by moderator to pass important messages or seek collaboration.

9 Other services provided by Pharmabridge Addresses for visits abroad: e.g. visit and lecturing of US faculty members to Indian pharmacy schools in connection with FIP Congress in Hyderabad. Linking Farmacie Mondiaal (Netherlands) with Rwanda to develop medicines management software and support to pharmacy school Providing general advice and guidance (e.g. on WHO)

10 How you can help to meet needs Offer institution/faculty/practice site for exchange and practice exposure Share expertise by offering lectures when travelling abroad or run training workshops – local accommodation is usually offered Use part of sabbatical to work in a DC as advisor or lecturer (under UN Volunteer scheme for longer term?) Forward books and journals etc. Provide distance advice on postgraduate practice research

11 CONCLUSIONS Pharmabridge is providing concrete support to pharmacy schools, hospitals and individual pharmacists in underprivileged countries. Feedback from people having benefited from the programme, and also from those having contributed to it in on way or other, is very positive. Pharmabridge has become a global pharmacist network and you are invited to join. Make use of this meeting and the FIP Congress to meet each other. You are invited to join
