1
Give, Act and Pray with us to build a more equal society Happier. Healthier. Safer. Fairer.
2
What is the problem?
3
The gap between rich and poor is greater now than at any time in the past 40 years.
4
The gap hurts everyone – rich and poor.
5
What are we calling for?
6
The Tax Gap The rich currently pay a lower proportion of their income in tax than the poor. Corporations avoid their social obligations through widespread tax avoidance.
7
Fair Tax We can press for a tax system in which businesses and wealthy individuals pay their fair share We must tackle tax avoidance This would reduce the need for damaging cuts in public spending
8
The Pay Gap Businesses reward high earners with excessive pay... whilst paying poverty wages to their lowest- paid staff Pay ratios in the private sector are at record levels
9
Fair Pay We must shift the public mood so that excessive pay gaps are unacceptable We can encourage employers to commit to paying a living wage This will reduce poverty at source
10
The Price Gap The poorest are unjustly forced to pay higher prices for basic goods and services Gas... Electricity... Insurance... Banking and borrowing
11
Fair Prices Businesses must stop charging higher prices to their poorest customers Government can put a cap on the charges made by lending companies We can promote fairer alternatives, like Ebico and credit unions We can save poor families up to £1,300 a year!
12
The Power Gap This underlies all the other problems... Big business exercises too much power Local communities have little or no say in decisions that affect them
13
A Fair Say Local people and groups from poorer communities must have a stronger voice We will challenge the unfair power that businesses and lobbyists have over public decisions
14
Fair Pay Fair Tax Fair Prices A Fair Say
15
Give, Act and Pray with us to build a more equal society What Pledge can YOU make?
16
Help to make the campaign a success. Pledge to give by standing order. Pledge to take a collection in church
17
Be part of a movement for change. Pledge to take an email action once a month. Pledge to hold your MP to account.
18
Pray for an end to injustice. Pledge to pray regularly with others.
19
Together, we CAN make a difference: the story of ‘Rip-off TV’ Hundreds of campaigners took a couple of minutes to email and ring lending companies. Forced them to listen to their customers. National policies are now being changed. A small Pledge can make a huge difference.
