Reproduction A healthy male Betta fish builds a bubble nest and waits for a female to pass by. As a signal he spits bubbles that float to the surface. When a female comes they do a rough courtship dance that looks like a mild version of fighting. The male curves over the female so that the female releases her eggs that the male fertilizes immediately. The female goes away and the male places the eggs in each of the bubbles in the bubble nest. The male guards the eggs until they hatch in 2 to 3 days. A healthy male Betta fish builds a bubble nest and waits for a female to pass by. As a signal he spits bubbles that float to the surface.
