2 Introduction The Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC), in his Commandant’s Planning Guidance of 2010, stated, “Improve Diversity in our Corps.” He has directed implementation of a leadership initiative that reaches out to communities and universities that support minority and women students to: –Showcase Marine Corps Leadership throughout America. – Explain and demonstrate the intangibles of leadership taught and practiced by Marine Officers. The “Marine Corps Leadership Seminar” (MCLS) is designed to reach out to influencers (parents, faculty, clergy, relatives) of potential Marine Officer candidates, while at the same time, providing a day and a half leadership seminar to available students. –Atlanta, Georgia, with its abundance of high quality universities and colleges, is the first venue. The MCLS is scheduled for 29 - 30 April 2011 at the Atlanta Marriott Downtown, Atlanta, GA. 2

10 Montford Point Marines In 1942, after President Roosevelt desegregated the federal government, the first African American recruits for the Marine Corps trained at Montford Point, NC. These patriots served the balance of World War II. This camp trained over 20,000 black Marines until 1949, when President Truman desegregated the U. S. military. The Montford Point Marine Association (MPMA) was founded in 1965 to commemorate their service. The Marine Corps and the Atlanta Chapter, MPMA are hosting a Reception in conjunction with the MCLS at the Atlanta Marriot Downtown,160 Spring Street, Atlanta, 29 Apr 2011, 4 – 7 PM. 11 Major General L. V. Williams, USMC (ret) Major General Leo Williams is Executive Vice President of Medifast, Inc. and Chairman of the Board of its Take Shape for Life network marketing subsidiary. Medifast, Inc. is a manufacturer, marketer and distributor of consumable, portion-controlled diet and health food products. Prior to Medifast, Inc., Gen. Williams was a marketing and strategic planning executive with Ford Motor Company. He was a principal manager on the design teams for Ford’s Explorer, Expedition, Escape, Excursion and F-150 Pickup Truck. 11 Distinguished Guest Speaker
