Santa Fe, NM Severity : Between 2000 and 2014, Santa Fe County was in some form of drought for twelve years. In 2003 and 2012 the county was in extreme or exceptional drought. Impacts: In summer of 2008, low snowpack and rainfall, along with continuing dry conditions, cut irrigation supplies dramatically in northern New Mexico. Responses/Declarations: In 2000 the city declared stage 3 drought conditions, and from 2000-2002 the city implemented water restrictions…putting pressure on the city to avoid future declarations. In 2008 and 2009, the city had to start diverting water from the Rio Grande to supplement their groundwater supply. 7 April 2016 - ESS
22
Santa Fe, NM Planning/Preparedness: In 1997, the city began a "lead by example" Water Conservation Program which was very effective, reducing per capita water consumption by more than 39% since 1995. Other mitigation measures the city has implemented include deep emergency groundwater wells, regional reservoir storage agreements, and intensified water conservation programs. 7 April 2016 - ESS
