2 Crimes against People  Murder – intentional killing of another person.  Manslaughter – unintentional Voluntary = when someone kills someone as a result of being in distress w/out prior plan to kill. Involuntary = when someone dies as a result of another crime or reckless act.

3 Crimes against People  Assault – attempt to commit battery  Battery – unlawful touching (forceful)  Kidnapping – unlawful removal of a person against his/her will.  Sex Offenses – includes rape and other sexual assaults.  Domestic Violence – reckless physical or mental harm in a family or household.

4 Crimes against Property  Burglary = breaking and entering.  Larceny = stealing with intent to keep.  Robbery = taking of property with force/threat/violence.  Vandalism = willful or malicious damage to property.

5 Crimes against Business  Forgery = signing someone else’s name Example: Signing a check that’s not yours  Embezzlement = stealing money through a business  Money Laundering = obtaining large amounts of money illegally and hiding the money in the business.  Arson = setting fire.

6 Crimes against Business  Fraud = Deception to obtain money or property.  Shoplifting= stealing goods from a store.

7 Crimes against the Government  Treason = Waging war against the US or giving aid to enemies.  Perjury = Lying under oath.  Obstruction of Justice = Hindering the court’s ability to move forward on a case.  Contempt of Court = Ignoring a court order or showing lack of respect in court.

8 Crimes Against Society  Disorderly Conduct = Disrupts social order, public safety or health.  Rioting = 3 or more people threatening to harm people or damage property or who have done either of these things.
