2 The Furies (also known as the Eumenídes or Erinýes) The Furies—Megaera, Tisiphone and Alecto, were three daughters of Gaea who were born of Ouranos' blood when Ouranos was emasculated by his son, Kronos.GaeaOuranos Kronos The Furies punished criminals, especially murderers, and represented conscience.

3 The Fates The Fates were three goddesses—Atropos, Clotho and Lachesis—who controlled the fates of mortals—and sometimes the gods. Even Zeus could be subject to the decisions of the Fates Some myths describe the Fates as spinning several threads, each representing a mortal. The threads could be cut, they could cross paths or be twisted in several directions.

4 The Muses Greek goddesses who ruled over the arts and sciences and offered inspiration in those subjects. They were the daughters of Zeus, lord of all gods, and Mnemosyne, who represented memory.

5 The Gorgons The Gorgons were three sisters named Stheno, Medusa and Euryale. They were the daughters of Phorcys, and granddaughters of Gaea. MedusaGaea Of the three, only Medusa was mortal. One look upon one of the face of a gorgon could turn any living thing to stone.

6 The Amazons The Amazons were a group of women who were believed to have descended from Ares. They lived far away, beyond the Black Sea.Ares Many of the Amazons had only one breast, as they had removed their right breast to more easily use a bow. The Amazons supposedly came to mate with men in other areas from time to time, and then raised their female children, discarding the males. The Amazons fought against the Greek army in the battle of Troy.Troy

7 The Maenads These were women who worshipped Dionysus. They travelled from festival to festival, roaming the woods, and throwing wild parties.

8 Nymphs a minor female nature deity typically associated with a particular location or landform NAIAD- nymph found in freshwater lakes and rivers NEREIDS- sea nymph of Mediterranean OCEANIDS- found in salt waters/oceans DYADES- trees Land Nymphs: alesides, auloniades, leimakides, napaeae, oreads
