Matter Created by : Reynaldo Thomas
2
What is Matter? An object which takes up space and have mass is called matter. Everything in your environment is made up of matter. A bottle water is made up of matter. All humans are made up of matter.
3
The States of Matter These are the physical forms which matter take in different environments. Solids, liquids and gases are all made up of microscopic particles The particles of each behaves differently. Solid Liquid Gas
4
Gas Gas always take the shape and volume of a container. In gas the particles are able to move past each other freely. There are a lot of free space between the particles hence gas can be easily compress. Gas are well separated with no regular arrangement.
5
Gas vibrate and move freely at high speeds.
6
Liquid Liquid generally takes the shape of the container which it is in. Its particles can slide past each other, but not as fast as in gas. In liquid there are little free space between the particles, hence why particles move slightly. liquid are close together with no regular arrangement. liquid can vibrate, move about, and move past each other.
7
Solids Solid has its own volume and shape. Its particles are fixed and locked onto each other. There are little free space between the particles, hence why solid is not easily compress. The particles of a solid does not move across each other. Solid are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern. Solid vibrate (jiggle) but generally do not move from place to place.
8
Change of State of Matter The change of state is a physical change from one state of matter to another. For example when liquid change to gas or from solid to liquid. The state of matter change when the motion of its atoms is altered by temperature or pressure.
9
When you lower the temperature of water, it will freeze into solid. When heat is apply to water, it will form steam which is a gas. In the form of solid, liquid or gas water is still water.
10
Plasma Plasma is sometimes called the fourth state of matter. It is electrically charged, and does not keep any shape. Plasma normally has a lot of energy. Is found on earth when lightning strike. The stars and sun are also made up of plasma.
