Exercise may increase the athlete's need for protein. Water is a critical nutrient for athletes. Dehydration can cause muscle cramping and fatigue.

11 Evaluation However, water is still the most important nutritional aspect as it critically affects an athlete’s performance once its presence starts to diminish.
