VIDEO GAMES A CHC 2D Canadian History Presentation
2
PONG nobody in television and movies thought anything of what was happening in Sunnyvale, California in 1972, a coin-operated game was put in a bar as an experiment it cost 25¢ to play a game of ping pong using blocks when the creators came back to check on it, the complaint was the machine was too full of quarters to take any more Atari was born

ARCADE Atari would later be sued over copying the idea but it didn’t matter — a Pong machine for home use was selling very well when it debuted in 1975 Atari began to experiment with machines that would be able to play more than one game in the meantime, the coin-operated machines spread across North America when these machines were put together in one spot, they got the new name of “video game arcade”

ATARI in 1977, Atari finally released its 2600 model the Atari 2600 machine hooked up to your television and played whatever game was on the cartridge slotted in the middle players used a joystick that had just one button — or paddles that were dials with a fire button on the side the machine was immediately popular and led to copycat machines like the Intellivision that were better in terms of graphics but not in terms of game play

ATARI video games would improve through the late 70s and early 80s, but it would not be until the early 80s that it was realized video games were more than just a fad what was a fad was electronic games that weren’t connected to the television — such as the Simon Says-like Simon or the electronic version of Battleship
