Things we’ve learned…
10
Communicate, communicate, communicate! Applicants need to make connections at their own institutions prior to submitting an application … and keep the lines open throughout the project.
11
Subcontracts are between institutions HESC can’t issue subcontracts while we are on forward funding. SU issues subcontract payments on a cost- reimbursable basis. Grantees must follow their own institution’s budget procedures and records.
12
Regarding proposal budgets… Supplies & materials may only be a small portion of a budget (typically, $200 and under). Indirect cost rate calculations can be tricky. Some institutions will require that fringe benefits be added. Keep the calculators fully charged!
13
The MOST important things we’ve learned…. Everything takes longer than we think it should. No two institutions do things the same way. Folks who work in finance live in different world than we do!
