2 The Outlines Founded by LG Yonam Foundation after accepting the building of a private residence donated by Cha Kyung Goo, the honorary chairman of the LG Group. Opened its service as the first digital library service in Korea in 1996. Established for the purpose of making a great contribution to research and technological advancement in the field of Science & Technology. Consisting of three main services – LG ELIT, LG ScienceLand, and LG DTB Library. A Future-Oriented Library Leading Digital Library Services in Korea

3 History 1996 2000 2003 ▪ Opened its services ▪ Providing digitalized journals & proceedings on-line (1,680,000 articles) ▪ Changed its service and re-launching as the portal service, LG ELIT ▪ Became a repository of precious information in Science & Techonology ▪ Launched a meta search service ▪ Launched LG ScienceLand to entice the youth to take interests in Science. ▪ Providing a edutainment science portal service. 2006 ▪ Launched the DTB Library as the world’s first ubiquitous library. ▪ Providing Web services, mobile phone services and telephone services for the print-disabled.

11 A Joyful Learning Space for the Youth Improving Scientific Minds and Creativity.  LG Science Land (http://www.lg-sl.net)  A Website for young children and teenagers designed to focus on the field of Science.  Fulfilling its goals to help the users find the fun in Science by integrating searching methods and creating user-oriented contents.  Recording consistently growth in its user group including over 103,537 total members and over 9,588 daily visiting users.

18 LG DTB Library = LG Digital Talking Book Library (http://voice.lg.or.kr) Launched on the 10 th anniversary of the LG Sangnam Library in order to expand the resources of information available to the disadvantaged. Developed to fully support the print-disabled in digital and ubiquitous environments. Enabling to listening to high-quality Digital Talking Book anytime anywhere. To realize the goals, actively adopting high technologies including RFID system and NFC-Bluetooth Communication. A Heartwarming Service Actively Utilizing Cutting-edge Technologies

20 The actions order of connecting the web service ▪ step 1: A user connects a NFC-Bluetooth dongle to the computer ▪ step 2: and then equips a mobile phone with a NFC reader ▪ step 3: When the user touches the dongle with the mobile phone, ▪ step 4: the Library activates user identification and automatically opens the web site The first web menu ‘My library’ or ‘Member registration page’ After accessing the web page ▪ Searching books ▪ Listening to the talking books ▪ Downloading the books via their mobile phone The Web Service
