1 Define Social Enterprises as Organisations that: a. Are led by an economic, social, cultural, or environmental mission consistent with a public or community benefit; b. Trade to fulfil their mission; c. Derive a substantial portion of their income from trade; and d. Reinvest the majority of their profit/surplus in the fulfilment of their mission A Social Enterprise is an organization or initiative that marries the social mission of a non-profit or government program with the market- driven approach of a business. – The Social Enterprise Alliance (USA)

2 Examples of Social Enterprise’s in Australia Australia Disability Enterprises –Businesses developed to employ people with a disability that are unable to work in mainstream businesses Intermediate Labour Market Companies –Businesses that undertake commercial work in order to train, support and employ disadvantaged job seekers and then transition them into mainstream jobs. Charitable Business Ventures –Commercial businesses established by charities to generate revenue which is reinvested in their charitable purpose. Social Firms –Businesses that undertake commercial work in order to create employment for people with a disability

May create employment and training for disadvantaged job seekers, Provide services to meet community needs, or Generate income for charities for not-for-profit groups. 8 About Clean Force Our Employees Over 90 permanent and casual Employees Approximately 60% of employees with a disclosed disability  Majority with an enduring, complex psychiatric illness. Over 80% diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders Of the remaining employees approximately 22% identify as having a disadvantage in regards to labour market participation  Long term unemployed, live in social housing, migrant / refugee background Employees average of 12 to 15 Hours Per Week, with some employees working over 25 Hours Per Week  Over 5,500 Hours of paid employment worked in a month. Eligible Employees supported to complete Vocational Training to Certificate III in Asset Maintenance Established in 2001, Clean Force is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing employment for people with disabilities and other disadvantaged backgrounds.

Garden Maintenance Clean Force is a professional commercial cleaning service that wins and keeps customer contracts against conventional businesses in the open market by competing favourably on price and consistently providing a high quality of service. We work with our customers to develop their understanding the benefits of employing people with disabilities and build awareness of the capabilities of people with a disability and promote inclusion. In 2009 Clean Force achieved its first $1 Million Dollars in annual revenue. 2014 Awarded Australian Social Enterprise of the Year (Large), 2014 Highly Commended Mental Health Employer Excellence – Victorian Public Health Care Awards In 2016 – Clean Force total annual revenue will exceed $3.6 million. Since commencing business operations Clean Force has generated in excess of $23 million in revenue  88% of revenue is the result of our commercial activities.  12% is generated through Disability Assistance Funding through DSS Since 2006 87 employees with disabilities or disadvantage commenced Certificate II & III in Cleaning Operations/Asset Maintenance with 62% successfully completing.

14 Social Impact A division of Employees experience significant positive changes with improvements in their mental health and personal wellbeing The supportive environment is beneficial to other disadvantaged employees who are have re-entered the workforce Increased earnings, spending power and self-sufficiency and independence The Government receives direct cash benefits due to Clean Force which are equivalent to its investment. Increased savings from welfare payments spent less time in the hospital or utilising other government sponsored medical services. This creates significant savings to the government Reduce stigma associated with mental illness and capacity of people with mental illness to work Improved relationships with immediate family & friends
