Open the database workbook and fill in the boxes This workbook will be used throughout the databases unit – DO NOT LOSE IT. It will be used at the end by the teacher to assess your ICT Level.

A database is a collection of information which is stored in a logical and structured way. In other words, it is some information which is saved and organised sensibly.

There are millions of these! You use quite a few… Facebook, Google, Pic Search, EBAY, Gmail Microsoft Access In your Database folder, open the Database Workbook In your booklets – Task 1A - Page 1 Write your definition of a database Write some advantages? Write some disadvantages? Let’s look at one Database

What information is this result made up of? Each piece of information is a FIELD. All information relating to one thing is called a RECORD.

Using the Video Club Fields document There are fields which are needed to join a film club - They are the orange boxes. Put the fields into a logical order. How many would be needed to make a record? Why is membership number needed? Match the data item to the fields – the purple ones. Extension: Write your own data items onto the green ovals.

In your workbook complete the Database search task – on Page 2. Go through results with students Searching is called querying in databases When you selected additional features – this is an AND query – the PC has to have all the features. Insight could operate without an electronic – but it would be very slow and rely on paper and humans.
