The halogens gases are located on the second to last column on the ‘d’ block Its also called Group 17. The elements in this family are:  Fluorine  Chlorine  Bromine  Iodine  Astatine

F:9e-: 1s 2 2s 2 2p 5 Br:35e-: 1s 2 2s 2 2p 6 3s 2 3p 6 4s 2 3d 10 4p 5

Fluorine was discovered by Joseph Henri Moissan (1886) Bromine was discovered by Antonie J. Balard (1826) Chlorine was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1774)

Both wood and rubber ignite are used with Fluorine gases. Bromine is used in industrial applications. For example, disinfectants, fire retardants, and many others. Iodine can be used to eye infections, treat common skin problems.

These elements in all are highly reactive. The densities of these elements are medium to low. The ionization energy of group 17 are high.
