Four Categories of Logos Descriptive - you can look at it and see what the company is involved. - not very popular because business often changes and you don’t want to have your logo portray something your company doesn’t have anything to do with

The problem with Descriptive logos ! ! ! This is a logo used by a company that makes fences. But what happens if the company later decides to make other kinds of kinds of fences? If they change the logo to reflect that they now create other types of fences people may not recognize recognize the new logo as being for the same company. If they keep the logo people will think they only make chain link fences. This is why many most logos are either symbolic or combined. That way if the company changes whey will not loss their identity.

Four Categories of Logos Combined- is the most common type of logo Contains elements of one or more the previous categories. Descriptive, Symbolic or Typographic

General Rules of Logo Development The more simple the easier to recognize? Use primitive shapes- i.e. circle, square, rectangle, triangle, ellipse -Don’t use too much detail. - Will the logo look good if it is the size of a postage stamp?
