Companionship – on their own terms Adult Social Services Environments and Settings 5 I wouldn't live anywhere else because I'd be lonely anywhere else. You never get lonely here….I'm mean I'm here by myself but if you want some company you've only got to go downstairs. For a person on their own loneliness is gone. That's the biggest disease in the world

Security Adult Social Services Environments and Settings 6 I love my flat - it's perfect for me. I've got people and friends around and I feel very safe. The security – I didn’t feel safe before but I do now

24 hour care Adult Social Services Environments and Settings 7 the feeling that as we are getting older, if anything happens there is help on hand You know that day or night there is someone there to help you You've got your own independence but help is there if you need it

Meals & Social Opportunities Adult Social Services Environments and Settings 8 I am where I wanted to be and I'm content Getting a regular meal very day and having people to talk to Sense of belonging, inclusion. Compassion, caring, kindness

Some Benefits of HwC Supporting couples Promoting independence for residents Saving money compared with residential care Serving as community hubs Adult Social care Settings and Environments

What is a community hub Facilities: restaurant/café, communal lounge, garden, hairdresser, activity room, laundrette, library, gym, computer suite, shop, woodwork room, cinema, ‘village hall’. Integrated community health and social care: GP consultations, onsite care/offsite care, therapies, podiatrist, rehabilitation team.

Community Hub Case Study Sites Case Study A Local Football Club Dementia Information Innovative catering We do outside catering ……but if we didn’t have that that wouldn’t make the business viable because we would just literally break even ……..as you can see from the prices we don’t make very much money.

Community Hub Case Study Sites Case Study B Innovative Catering Intergenerational Information Groups “the kids were all running around there to find the eggs and stuff like that and they said it was lovely to see some children out there running around and having fun.”

Community Hub Case Study Sites Case Study C Spa Local Community Groups Information groups “the physiotherapist and the osteopath will bring their own clinic base here so they will already have clients that are already seeing them”

Community Hub Case Study Sites Case Study D Super hub! “we have a bit over 1000 over 50s on the estate….the over 50s project ….its fantastic you know, they engaged with over 200 people in the last year

Advantages of a Community Hub Improved well-being and nutrition Improved social interaction Access to information Greater financial sustainability of facilities/activities Attracting future residents Increased integration with the local community

Key Findings overall…. For some older people a move to housing with care is associated with a better quality of life when compared with living in mainstream housing. Local authority approaches to commissioning adult social care vary considerably in response to a complex range of drivers including public spending cuts, welfare reforms, the personalisation agenda and changing aspirations for later life. Adult Social Services Environments and Settings 16

Key Findings overall…… There is an urgent need to provide better financial information to current and prospective residents and their families. This could include information on personal budgets, direct payments and charging arrangements. The housing with care model can support residents who are very diverse in terms of their abilities, needs and care packages, including those not receiving any planned care.
